Michael A. Gort brings over three decades of business experience, including roles as an investment banker, consultant, board member, and manager. After being admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 1976, he joined Foley & Lardner in Milwaukee. In 1978, he moved to Smith Barney Harris Upham in Chicago as a Public Finance investment banker. Over the next 20 years, he worked with Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley in New York, then consulted with startups and ran a startup before holding executive positions in various businesses.
In 2008, Gort and his family relocated to Florida, where he was admitted to The Florida Bar in 2009. He founded Gort Law, P.A. to serve small and medium-sized businesses, startups, and real estate investors. Drawing on his extensive experience, he offers tailored legal services, including support for financing, contracting, employment law, privacy, cyber-security, risk management, litigation management, and corporate governance.
Gort's earlier career included extensive interactions with top law firms while working as an investment banker, emphasizing the importance of exceptional legal counsel. His goal is to provide similar high-level service to Florida's business community, making in-house general counsel resources accessible to businesses of all sizes.
Gort’s background includes service in the U.S. Army as a helicopter pilot, where he met his wife, Maria. They have been married for over 50 years. After completing his military service, Gort finished college at the University of Michigan, graduated with honors from George Washington University Law School, and began his legal career. He and his family lived in Greenwich, Connecticut, before settling in Jupiter, Florida, where they now enjoy the Southern lifestyle.
